What was programming in QuickBasic like?

Was it as fun as it was in my rose-tinted memories?

I used to love coding in QuickBasic. It was something that brought me joy. But I was a lot younger then and I have used a lot more powerful languages since then. Let's try it out together in 2025 and see if it's still any good!

The answer, surprisingly, is yes. And I have a few modern(ish) day upgrades that make life a bit easier. One, I can multi-task, thanks to the Inboard 386/PC (see below video link), and that allows me (in DesqView, or Windows 3), to be able to copy/paste text between running apps, so I don’t have to manually type everything into Quick Basic from another text file or app on the PC, plus there is also the benefit of having modern-day internet resources (and ChatGPT) at hand! Coding is very easy with Quick Basic, much easier than with Python, say, so the barrier to entry is much less, and it’s practical use is great if you are developing apps that don’t need to be performant. The modern equivalent (Qb64: https://qb64.com) is available on all platforms, bringing the ease of Quick Basic to all, even in 2025!
